TRYOUT INFORMATION

What is Band Front?

Band Front (also called Color Guard) can be found in most American colleges, universities, high schools, and middle schools. Band front uses props such as batons and flags to express sections of music accompanying the marching band. Traditionally, it is the visual representation of the music. The Warrior Band Front team performs with the marching band at all home/away football games, competitions, and parades. Every few years, the band travels to perform at various events. The Warrior Marching Band has performed at the Orange Bowl, New York City, and Epcot. This year the band will be performing at the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame in May.

Honor Guard vs Band Front

If you make the team, you will join Honor Guard or Band Front. Try-out scores determine Honor Guard and Band Front. Those with a score in between a certain range make Band Front. Band Front performs the flag/twirling routines for all events. Those with scores slightly lower and in a specific range make Honor Guard. Honor Guard is a group who marches at the front of the band and displays the band’s banner, American/PA flags, and mock rifle. This group leads the band in the parades and on/off the field during all performances. As an Honor Guard member, you will be responsible for this important job.

If you do not make band front, please do not get discouraged or give up.  Continue to practice and try again next year!

Tryouts for Band Front

All new and returning members are required to try out for the team. Only students who are eligible and are auditioning for captain are exempt from team tryouts. Students are required to attend all five practices listed above or he/she will not be allowed to try out on May 8th. Students will be required to perform two short routines learned during practices, a flag routine and a baton routine. Flags will be provided for practice, however, it is recommended that students purchase a baton of their own before clinics. Purchasing a baton does not guarantee that a student will make the team. Students who make the squad will be required to purchase a baton. Only students in grades 7-11 are allowed to try out.
